New Life for a New Year
A roman philosopher once wrote that “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” These words ring very true this week as we begin the New Year. Some people will make New Year’s resolutions to quit smoking or take up a new hobby, while others will become determined to lose those last 10 pounds. For anyone going through a divorce, this is a great time to make a fresh start.
For most people, the new year can be their clean slate, a time to start over and forget anything unpleasant that has happened in the past year. Whether your divorce was a mutual decision or so painful that you can’t bear to think about it, you can take this opportunity to begin a new journey. Take a step back and ask yourself “If I had the chance to start a new life, what would I do differently?”
Do something every day that makes you happy and realize that this is a time where you can be selfish and focus on yourself. Try new things that maybe your spouse didn’t want to do with you. Spend time with your friends and family and enjoy their company, knowing that you are embarking on a new adventure with them by your side.
Take this time to reflect on the events that brought you to where you are today. You have the chance to start over and become a new person with a new life, full of exciting adventures. What will you do first?
